Couples therapy (also known as marriage counseling or relationship therapy) is a form of psychotherapy that helps romantic partners improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen their emotional bond.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a structured, evidence-based psychotherapy approach primarily used to treat trauma, PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), anxiety, and other distressing memories. It was developed by psychologist Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s.
EMDR helps people process and integrate traumatic memories by using bilateral stimulation, often in the form of guided eye movements, taps, or sounds, while recalling distressing memories. The process allows the brain to reprocess these memories, reducing their emotional charge and helping individuals integrate them in a healthier way.
